DraftKings surpassed FanDuel in monthly handle for the first time since Ohio sports betting launched in January.
July was the lowest monthly-handle in Ohio’s sports betting history.
Ohio surpassed the $4 billion mark in seven months despite their worst month in July.
CINCINNATI – Ohio’s monthly sports betting revenue report for July shows three first-time feats, including highs and lows for the sports betting handle.
For the first time in Ohio’s short legal sports betting history, DraftKings surpassed FanDuel in July as the top Ohio sportsbook.
DraftKings Takes Over Top Spot in July
DraftKings reeled in $116.1 million in handle for July, while FanDuel held onto second place with a handle of $106.6 million. DraftKings and FanDuel have a chokehold on the sports betting handle in Ohio, receiving nearly 70% of all July wagers placed in the Buckeye State.
DraftKings narrowed the gap in June after falling $3 million short to FanDuel. Now, DraftKings ends the six-month streak of FanDuel at the top in Ohio despite a slow July.
July Marks Lowest Handle Yet
July’s $319.58 million handle marked the lowest in Ohio sports betting history. Still, July earned more taxable revenue for the state than June did with over $30 million less in handle.
A historically low July handle shows that Ohio needs NFL betting to return. Despite the bad news with a poor month, it was enough to push Ohio’s lifetime sports betting handle over the $4 billion mark.
Ohio Reaches $4 Billion Since January Launch
July also brings good news with legal Ohio sports betting surpassing a $4 billion handle since launching in January.
According to the Ohio Casino Control Commission, the Buckeye State earned $576.54 million in taxable revenue in six months with legal sports betting. With the 2023-2024 NFL season beginning on Thursday, Ohio sports betting numbers will likely jolt back up for September and the rest of the season.
