FRANKFORT, Ky. – Andy Beshear signed another legal sports betting related emergency regulation on Friday, this time to begin direct management of Kentucky Problem Gambling Assistance.

Beshear and the rest of Kentucky are gearing up for their legal sports betting launch at retail locations on September 7.

“This regulation establishes the process for providing funds to this account, to support agencies, groups, organizations, and persons, that are best able to help those who experience problem gambling,” Beshear said. “The funds can also be used to promote both awareness and education to reduce and prevent problem gambling and pay for the costs associated with treatment and recovery.”

Governor Beshear also noted at the signing that the regulation serves as a complement to the Sports Betting Advisory Council, which Beshear created earlier this month to protect sports betting integrity. The Kentucky Problem Gambling Assistance account most notably claims it will treat problem gamblers while also reducing and preventing problem gamblers in the future.

Kentucky sports betting is set to launch in September after legislation passes and signed on March 30. The quick turnaround for a legal sports betting launch in the Bluegrass State has Beshear launching key efforts such as beginning the administration of the Kentucky Problem Gambling Assistance account.

Beshear stated that legal Kentucky sports betting is expected to bring in $23 million dollars in revenue in it’s first year. With many Kentucky residents eager to bet on the NFL, beginning administration for the problem gambling account is essential for guaranteeing the well-being of Kentucky residents.
